Here we are more in the South than Marseille and only in 750 m of height. Certain soft winters the magnolia blooms even in February.

What a surprise to see a magnolia in flower in March against a backdrop of mountains and snow. The one I have in my garden here in the south of Scotland won't flower for a week or so yet. Latitude is perhaps more important than altitude.
